Research Collection of Assistive Technology Resources and Services

Assistive Technology (AT) is a term used for a range of resources/services that provides the development of activities increasing the functional capabilities of people with disabilities.

The Brazilian Law for the Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities – (Law No. 13,146, of January 6, 2015), defines Assistive Technology or technical assistance: products, equipment, devices, resources, methodologies, strategies, practices and services which aims at promoting functionality, related to the activity and participation of people with disabilities or people with reduced mobility. It aims at increasing their autonomy, independence, quality of life and social inclusion.

This research collection is an Educational Product in which are obtainable findings of a master's research, presented to the Graduate Program in Professional and Technological Education (ProfEPT), offered by the Federal Institute of Mato Grosso (IFMT). The research was conducted by Leila Cimone Teodoro Alves, under the guidance of Profª. Dra. Juliana Saragiotto Silva.

The Resources and Services of Assistive Technology presented in this research collection are grouped in categories: (i) Visual Zoom and Translation Resources; (ii) Auditory Function and Translation Resources; and (iii) Sports and Leisure.

This research collection aims at disseminating the knowledge of Assistive Technology Resources and Services to support educators and students on their classroom. Consequently, and considering that a device or resources can add different functionalities, each resource presented in this research collection takes descriptions of Assistive Technology accompanied by a demonstration video.

This research collection is aimed at sharing knowledge to the internal (students and civil servants) and external community who wish to learn about Assistive Technology Resources, as well as, those resources/services which are accessible at IFMT campi. Based on this idea, the users can access the menus, and search for the contents of the Assistive Technology Resources.

Collection of Assistive Technology

It is assumed that the access, permanence and success of the students with disabilities go beyond the isolated actions. In the year of 2021, IFMT established the Systemic Board of Student Assistance, Inclusion and Diversity (DSAestudantil). It is composed of a multidisciplinary group. The board is in charge of implementing student assistance policies at the institution, such as the Inclusive Education Policy for Students with Disabilities and/or Specific Educational Needs, within the scope of the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Mato Grosso, approved by Resolution 88/2022 − RTR-CONSUP/RTR/IFMT, of September 16, 2022.
